Collection of Soil Algae

The Collection of Soil Algae and Cyanobacteria contains several hundred strains isolated from various parts of the world. Many strains originate from central Europe; however polar as well as tropical regions are also represented. The source material mostly includes soils from deserts, fields, forests or post mining areas, but algae and cyanobacteria originating from volcanic ash or cave air can be also found.

No, the strains are unialgal, but they can contain some bacterial or fungal contamination.
